Queen Maxima brought sunshine to the Netherlands today as she wowed in a yellow ensemble during her visit to a lab in Wageningen.

The royal, 52, took a trip to Food Valley, an organisation that guides companies to transition into a more sustainable food system.

She oozed elegance as she rocked up to the event in a Johanna Ortiz canary yellow maxi dress with brown paisley pattern detailing on it.

The stand-out garment - which Maxima has worn on multiple occasions - cinched in at the waist, showing off her sophisticated and slender figure.

The mother-of-three chose to match her flamboyant frock with chocolate-coloured accessories, donning a pair of shiny heels, walnut-coloured round stud earrings and a chic clutch bag.

She listened intently as the staff explained to her what different substances were. Maxima got stuck in as she went on the tour, smelling different dishes along the way.

In one particular snap, the royal looks shocked as one of the employees explains different sauces that people may use in their dishes.

Food Valley emerged in 2004 from a collaboration between Wageningen University and Research, agrifood companies and the regional government.

Queen Maxima has had a busy week so far, after she made several trips to Groningen yesterday with her husband King Willem-Alexander.

The pair went to a healthcare institution and a school, where Maxima was snapped smiling and laughing with the primary school kids, who were wearing paper crown hats in the colours of the Dutch flag.

Maxima chuckled as she shook their hands and was handed a bouquet of purple and white flowers.

They were guided through the De Tirrel building, which houses two schools, De Hoven healthcare institution, childcare, catering and a sports hall.

Queen Maxima looked as though she was having fun and even appeared to join in a game with some of the residents.

De Tirrel was set up based on a need to renovate school buildings, the sports hall and the healthcare centre, so it was agreed that it would be worked on together in 2014.

Afterwards the King and Queen travelled to Zoutkamp, near Groningen to speak to local residents.

Maxima struggled with the wind in this area as she held onto her hairband to stop it from blowing away.

The royal couple also took a trip to a farm in rural Stedum, where Maxima stroked and interacted with cows.

At the start of the month, they attended a scaled back World War II remembrance ceremony as security was tightened amid Gaza protest fears.

The city of Amsterdam announced it would severely restrict attendance at the annual event in the city's Dam Square.

Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said the war between Israel and Hamas and heightened tensions throughout the Middle East had raised the risk of protests and 'spontaneous actions' disturbing the ceremony.

Attendance was reduced from 20,000 to 10,000 due to protest concerns.

Measures were therefore needed to make sure the ceremony would remain 'dignified, controlled and safe', Dutch authorities said.

The King and Queen of the Netherlands laid down a wreath at the National monument and joined in with two minutes of silence to remember the victims of World War II.
